Oracle – Adding Contact and Updating Dependent Coverage and Beneficiaries Hello, my name is Cindy. In this tutorial, I'll show you how to add dependents and beneficiaries with a correct date so they can be added to your benefit plans. I just had a baby and need to add her to my benefit plans. There are three important things to remember when adding dependents and beneficiaries. [No Audio: user selects the Personal Information icon, then the benefits icon, then the More Details button] The first important thing is that before anyone can be added as a dependent or a beneficiary, they have to be added as a contact in the benefits area. I'll be adding my newborn as a contact. [No Audio: Under Contacts, user selects the Create button and fills in the appropriate fields with the contact information] If I don't add her as a contact, I will not be able to see her when I try to add her to my benefit plans. The second important thing is what effective date we use on our contacts. The effective date needs to be the date that the person became eligible for coverage. In my case I just had a baby, so I need to enter the baby's date of birth. I want her to be covered from her birth on. If I just got married and wanted to add my spouse, I would need to enter the date we were married. If my spouse lost coverage and I'm picking him up, I would need to enter the date I want him covered on my plan. If I was new to the company or just became qualified for benefits, my effective date for all my contacts should be the day I started, or the day I became eligible for benefits. If I was part-time and just started working full-time on January 15, I would enter all of my contacts as of January 15, regardless of when they came into my life. If someone already existed as a contact, but the relationship changed, you will need to enter a new effective date for that relationship. Example, you had a friend as an emergency contact, and you married your friend. You would need to go to the contacts and edit the contact effective date as of the wedding date and change the relationship to a spouse. After doing this change, you could then go into the plan and add his coverage to your plans. You should always remember the effective date is the date they become eligible for coverage. This is the third or last important thing to remember. In order to add my baby to my plans, I must highlight each plan option, and scroll down to the dependents' area and check the cover box by her name. [No Audio: In Benefits Overview, the user selects the Change Benefit Elections button, then the Go to Task button associated with the Choice Program, then scrolls down and checks the Cover box associated with the dependent’s name for each Plan and Option] I have now added her to my insurance plans. I will now redistribute my life insurance beneficiaries to include Lauren. Before submitting, I can review and make sure I have everyone covered. Lauren is now covered under my insurance plan. She was also added as a beneficiary to my accidental death insurance. For additional information, you can find learning resources in the Oracle Learning Library and at Oracle University. Thank you.
