SABRINA C. [NO AUDIO] Age 14 [NO AUDIO] Kateri S. Adoption Transition Worker Kateri: Sabrina is 14 and she has been in DHS custody for about four years. She is a ball of energy. She's so much fun. You are never bored when Sabrina's around. She always ... She's very clever. She always wants to explore new things, get into things and figure out how things work. She gets excited about everything. She really just loves life. She has a lot of joy. She really likes to eat. She likes all kinds of food. One of the most unique things about Sabrina is just how much she gets into the things that she does. She will start doing a puzzle and just sit there and really get into doing the puzzle and get super excited about doing that. She also just really likes to explore things. She sees something, she will run across the room and go check it out. Sabrina really needs to find an adoptive family, a forever family that can really love and support her. She needs two parents just because of the amount of attention and care that she requires. She does require a good deal of redirection, so she needs somebody that can spend a lot of time with her because Sabrina is Autistic she really needs a family that's prepared to see to her needs. She does have several therapy appointments but really she just needs consistency and love. She just needs some adults in her life that are there for her all the time, that will be there for her for the long haul. With her verbal capabilities, Sabrina's therapists do think that she has the ability to be more verbal. Right now she only says one or two words very rarely and only with people she's very comfortable with. Sabrina will do best in a two parent home. She would be best as the youngest child or the only child in the home. We often have a very hard time finding adoptive families for our children with higher medical needs or our disabled children but it's really important that families sign up and volunteer to become adoptive homes. While there are more needs involved with parenting a disabled child there are lots of supports in place and supports that can be accessed and really the most important thing is just loving and caring for this child. Everything else can kind of fall into place as long as you're willing to just put in the time and the attention. With Sabrina in your family, you will never be bored. Sabrina will bring joy and excitement to any adoptive home. So if you can just open your hearts and let Sabrina come into your lives, I think she would really add a lot to any home who was willing to take her in and take care of her.
