CODING HOME PROPERTY IN FACS John Sullivan John: Hello, today we're going to do a quick training on how to code home property for nursing home cases in the FACS resource tab. So here we have the resource tab pulled up in FACS, and these are the important blocks right here. (NO AUDIO) fields labeled Property Type, Value, Home Equity, Lots or Acres, Owernship %, Medicaid Recovery Lien, Lien Date, Medicaid Estate Recovery, Medicaid Estate Recovery Date, and Dt Entr Nursing Home are indicated. So, if we have a client who has a disabled child living in the home, we would put this right here (NO AUDIO) Field labeled Property Type "owns home but indicators F, H, I, or L not applicable." We're going to put the value of the home property here, (NO AUDIO) Field labeled Value so if it's $100,000, you type in $100,000. Equity in the home, if it's paid off and it's worth $100,000, then the client has $100,000 in equity. Now this right here, (NO AUDIO) Field labeled Lots or Acres if it's a home, we put 1 L for lot. "A" is for acre, "R" is if it's a mobile home or something, a structure where it's on property not owned by the client. Right here, (NO AUDIO) Field labeled Ownership % for percent ownership, we're going to do 100. Now let's say in this situation, the client has a disabled son living in the home who's getting Social Security disability. In this case, the home is exempt as a resource and from a lien. So we want to put "not filed/disabled child (any age)" right here, (NO AUDIO) Field labeled Medicaid Recovery Lein because we're not going to put a lien on this home as long as the disabled child's living there. Lien date will be either the date you file the lien, or the date you discover the household composition, so let's just use today's date, "09/03/2014." Medicaid Estate Recovery, again we're going to put "no, a disabled child" because in the future we don't want to put a lien on this home as long as the child is still living there. So "no," there. Again, the same date "09/03/2014." This block right here (NO AUDIO) Field labeled Dt Entr Nursing Home is the date the client entered the nursing home. So let's say it was August 1st, "08/01/2014." Then at the next review, you'll want to check these blocks again, and make sure everything's the same, the client's child still living there, he's disabled by Social Security, update these dates to the next year when you're doing the review. And there you have it. So there's a real quick guide on how to properly code home property into FACS. Thank you for watching.
