ANDREW M. [MUSIC PLAYS] Malia S. Adoption Transition Unit Specialist Malia: Andrew is a loving kid. He's fifteen. He's very enthusiastic about life. He's energetic. Andrew: I'm very kind to others, and people do like me the way I am, because I'm funny, because I do funny stuff a lot. I really care about people, too. I just want to be successful and make people happy. Malia: Andrew is a huge Thunder fan. He's so looking forward to tonight's game, all the Thunder players he's excited to see. He's never been to a Thunder game, and so tonight is going to be something that he is going to look back on and just build memories on. Andrew: I got to meet Roberson, and I got to meet Ibaka. Speaker 3: Sup, bro? Andrew: I'm your favorite [fan 00:01:17]. I was kind of nervous and sweaty. Malia: Teenage boys, teenage children in general, are tough. Sadly, a lot of our kids age out, which means that they come to turn eighteen and leave our care. We do the very best that we can, but we all know that mom's and dad's, they're the ones that give us the foundation to be successful in life. That's what our kids need. That's what our teenage boys need. For Andrew, that's what he's looking for. Andrew: I'd like to be adopted, because I want to have a family who follow through my dreams and help me follow through, pretty much going to college, going to school, going to help me. I have a tendency that lying sometimes, but I'm working on it, though. I'm very working on it, and I would like that family to help me work on it. Malia: For Andrew right now, he currently resides in a group home. When people think about group homes, they think it's because behaviorally challenged children, but that's not the case for Andrew. When we talk about permanency for Andrew, that's removing him from a group home setting. It's him having his own room, having a family, a mother and father, or even a single parent, having a sister, a brother, a backyard to play in, being involved in community sports. That's what permanency looks like for Andrew, and he's really excited about that. Andrew: I'd like to have a family that will follow through my dreams and who will care about me, and who will do a lot of things like play basketball, helping me go through school, and helping me a lot. Malia: Adoption to Andrew means finding a family that is going to love him, support him in what his goals are in life. He wants to find a family that's going to give him boundaries, give him support, love him unconditionally. Andrew: I want somebody to help me get through my past. I want them to do stuff that will help me to see. Malia: He's been in our care since 2013, and he needs a home. He needs a forever family. He's a really wonderful guy.
