INSIDE DHS SELF-CARE, JANUARY 2015 - STEPS (MUSIC PLAYS) It's a new year. You've got a clean slate and a fresh start. You can make all those changes and be the person you've always dreamt of being, right? Unfortunately, human behavior shows us that vast, radical changes don't have much staying power. Self-Care isn't about trying to constantly fix yourself. Honoring yourself is not an all-or-nothing proposition. A good approach is to make small steps that add up to overall better living. For example, healthy food choices can start with bringing your lunch and then expand to homemade dinners over time. Moving more can start with parking farther from the door and grow to include more exercise. Stringent demands and high expectations are a set-up for disappointment. Perfect isn't the goal. A little better every day is doable and leaves room for little missteps here and there. Use your Employee Assistance Program visits for professional help with any issue. They're cost-free and always confidential. Take a small step in the right direction and take time to take care.
