INSIDE OKDHS -- HONORING QUALITY Director Howard Hendrick: Every year I say this, and I never can believe it could get better than it got last year. You guys always amaze me. I mean, I am totally awed by how every year our agency continues to perform at unbelievable records. The Quality process, many of you à some of you are here for the Best of the Best and may not be familiar with the Quality process. Some of you in the Quality process, you know about this, but I think it would be good for everybody just to kind of refresh our memory. One of the things we're trying to do here is measure improvement and document that measurement and how the change happened and whether or not those changes really did result in measured improvements. And so, the persons who evaluated these projects are usually from outside the agency, I don't know this year, I think they're still from outside the agency, who come in and assess all of our projects that are submitted and then based upon that they select who are our agency winners, who are the Honorable Mention winners. Then, all of those projects are also submitted to the State Quality Awards group who have them independently reviewed for all state agencies to assess how well those projects actually measure and document the quality improvement. (music plays as a montage of Director Hendrick and several Best of the Best award winners is displayed.) No Audio: Edmund Faagai -- Social Service Specialist II -- Best of the Best winner Edmund Faagai: Well, it's the Best of the Best. It's à as far as I'm concerned, it's a very prestigious award. I'm so honored that a group of my colleagues has elected me. What it means to me is that nine years of services to the State of Oklahoma has not only meant a lot to me, but it's been sort of my calling. I can't tell you; it's just great. You do these things without thinking of or wanting to get recognized, but it's nice when they do, you know. I don't think anybody in the Social Service field goes into this for any kind of self-recognition or anything like that. They do it because it's what we feel like we need to do to help people in Oklahoma. It's just a great thing to be recognized for something that you feel -- it's your calling. No Audio: Fonda Logston -- Director, Enterprise Program Management Division -- Quality Award Winner Fonda Logston: It's exciting. You know, we work a lot at the EPMO and sometimes we feel like we're butting our heads against the wall sometimes for change because our office is all about changing the way we do things. And, so it's really exciting when you get recognized, that someone actually appreciates some of the changes that you've suggested and put in place. So, that's exciting and just to know that they're appreciated and that it's good work and it's quality work that other people notice, too. No Audio: Karen Duncan -- Director of Business Quality in Data Services Division - Quality Award Winner Karen Duncan: I've always been very focused on quality in your work ethic, in your work efforts, and in the products you produce. But, even more so today it's so important because of the budget and the things that are happening in State government and it affects OKDHS. The more excellent, the better quality we can put into our processes, the less error prone they are so therefore we don't have to re-do things, the better services we can provide to our consumers, our customers out there. We can just provide so ... more enhanced features and functionality by providing excellent services, excellent products. No Audio: Larry Brown -- Children and Family Services -- Quality Award Honorable Mention Larry Brown: If you have that little extra motivation, if you can get some encouragement from the people that you work with and some recognition like we're getting today, it really helps to make that happen, I believe. No Audio: Carlissa Parker -- Oklahoma Child Support Services -- Best of the Best Winner Carlissa Parker: I think it's, you know, a really great honor for all of us to be recognized. It makes us feel good and it, you know, makes us want to do better and drive harder not just for the children but, you know, it is nice to be recognized every once in awhile, so. No Audio: Heidi Randell -- Assistant Director of Oklahoma Child Support Services -- Quality Award Winner Heidi Randell: The key to exceptional work is quality teamwork. We all work together. We all have a mission that we believe in. We believe wholeheartedly not only in the mission of Child Support but the mission and vision of DHS as a whole for healthy families. It's important for us and as long as we all have that goal and mission, we always strive to do more and more things. We actually have more projects on the table than we possibly have the resources to work right now. There's so many great ideas. No Audio: Karen Luman -- Human Resources Manager -- Quality Award Honorable Mention Karen Luman: I think it feels really good mostly because we collaborated with another division and we were able to work together and come up with this. It wasn't just HRMD. It was also IT that worked with us. We couldn't have done it without them. No Audio: Elizabeth Rennie -- Child Support Caseworker -- Best of the Best Winner Elisabeth Rennie: I love being able to make a contribution. It really gives me a sense of worth in the work that I do. No Audio: Paula Moore -- Career Development Specialist -- Quality Award Honorable Mention Paula Moore: It helps me know that I'm accomplishing my job and just gives me great satisfaction. When I started with DHS that was my goal -- to help people, you know, make their lives better and become more self-sufficient and help them get better for their families. No Audio: Margot Barnes -- Human Resources Manager -- Quality Award Honorable Mention Margot Barnes: It's very good because what we do often goes unnoticed and yet we're the ones that need to get people or assist people in hiring people quicker and better. So, this recognizes our efforts at doing that and accomplishing the agency's mission. No Audio: Nick Gribnau -- State office of Child Support -- Quality Award Honorable Mention Nick Gribnau: It's great! Especially when the work that's done is serving the people of Oklahoma. It really makes you feel good as a public service or a servant that you are doing such a good public service and that the State is so willing to help you do those things. Director Hendrick: Thanks for being the Best of the Best and representing each of your offices and groups so well, and congratulations on all the innovations that continue to be created through all the Quality Awards. You're doing an awesome job and if I can help make it better, let me know, too. Thank you very much. 2011 BEST OF THE BEST Cheryl L. Willie Peggy Wilson Larry G. Swepston Jonna D. Ard Christina F.
