CHILDREN’S HEALTH CARE COVERAGE:SEGMENT 1 - OVERVIEW The health and well-being of our children is a number-one concern for parents. An important part of the child support program is making sure children receive health care. That's why Oklahoma Child Support Services, or OCSS, includes a provision for medical support in all child support orders. A court order for parents to pay child support will also include health care coverage under Oklahoma law. A judge can order you as a parent to provide health insurance or pay cash medical support in your child support order. So be sure to bring any health care coverage information you have to any court hearing about child support. There are a few avenues the course of your health care order can take. As a parent, you can be ordered to provide health insurance, alternative coverage or pay cash medical support when insurance is not available. The order can also require that you pay for private health insurance premiums or contribute your percentage as part of the monthly amount in the child support computation. A person with custody of the child may also be ordered to enroll the child in public coverage such as SoonerCare.
