CHILDREN’S HEALTH CARE COVERAGE: CASH MEDICAL When no health care insurance is available, there is still another option to help your child get the health care he or she deserves. Oklahoma law requires a judge to order cash medical support in the child support order to go toward a child's health care needs. Cash medical support is calculated according to the child support guidelines developed by the Oklahoma Legislature. The amount to be paid is based upon the parent's income and generally does not exceed 5% of a person's gross income per month. This amount is also collected from income withholding as part of the child support payment. If the child is receiving SoonerCare, the cash medical support is sent to the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to help offset the cost of public coverage. Otherwise, it's included as a part of the monthly child support amount for the custodial person to spend on the child's health care needs. Be sure to bring all information regarding your family's health care coverage to any court hearing about child support.
